About us

Why use FEC Testing?

Our Mission

Advanced Faecal Egg Count Testing for Equine Health

We are located in Glenrowan regional Victoria, our Faecal Egg Count Testing facility utilises cutting-edge technology to provide accurate and efficient faecal egg count (FEC) testing for horses. Intestinal parasites represent a major threat to equine health, potentially compromising both wellbeing and performance.

Effective parasite management on equine properties is often complex, costly, and time-intensive. By implementing the FECPAK system, we make an otherwise invisible issue both visible and manageable, supporting informed decision-making and improved health outcomes for horses.

Our Mission

Why use FEC Testing?

Our Mission

At Parasite Diagnostic Solutions, our mission is to enhance equine health through innovative testing services. We are committed to providing horse owners with accurate data through Faecal Egg Count Testing to manage their horses' parasite loads effectively.

We find in the equestrian industry there are incorrect practices around parasite management, which is increasing the worm burden for horses and parasite resistance, making the current dewormers on the market ineffective.

There is already parasite resistance in sheep and cattle and the equine industry is headed down the same path as there are no new active ingedients for dewormers to combat parasite resistance in horses.

Naturally in the wild horses as grazing animals carry a parasite burden however it is generally low as they graze over kilometres of pasture, however with domestication horses are grazing the same patches of pasture and more susceptible to intake of parasite larvae in the pasture.

However, by just giving a dewormer regularly is not the answer and could be increasing parasite resistance for your horse.

Also giving a different dewormer brand each time can be high risk of creating parasite resistance in your horse.

Faecal Egg Count Testing identifies Strongyle worm burdens in your horse and gives an insight to the internal health of your horse and the best fit parasite management approach.

Faecal Egg Count (FEC) testing is a vital tool in modern equine parasite management. It offers the following key benefits:

  • Accurate      Detection of Parasite Burdens: FEC testing identifies and quantifies      the presence of internal parasites such as Strongyles and Parascaris      equorum, enabling targeted treatment.
  • Supports      Strategic Worming: By determining actual parasite load, FEC testing      helps horse owners avoid unnecessary deworming, promoting more effective      and sustainable parasite control strategies.
  • Preserves      Anthelmintic Effectiveness: Regular FEC monitoring reduces the overuse      of dewormers, which is essential to minimising the development of      anthelmintic resistance.
  • Improves      Equine Health and Performance: Timely identification and management of      parasitic infections help maintain optimal digestive health, weight,      condition, and overall performance in horses.
  • Cost-Efficient      Management: FEC testing allows for informed treatment decisions,      reducing costs associated with indiscriminate worming programs.

Incorporating FEC testing into routine horse care is a proactive measure that supports the long-term health and productivity of our amazing equines.
